Finally a twin cam excel.....
So went to the damaged vehicle auctions today to pick up a twiny excel, the one i saw on the net looked mint on the net but on inspection the rear suspension mounts were all snapped so gave that a miss, but i found a 99 x3 hatch twincam with 159000kms with a nit of front end damage. Nothing to serious already stripped it down need to buy a slide hammer and mend 2 excels into 1 good excel... (by good i mean as good as an excel can be) So for $350 and a bit of hard work it should be a fun little car for next season, (ill try keep this car on the wheels the entire season)
Anyone else doing anything different for next season?

Re: Finally a twin cam excel.....
so engines in and drives well, deffinatly a bit more ballsy than the single cam with a rooted head and a fried clutch fiberglassed a intake box and cold air system, looks good and will be effective for the pod.... just gonna muck around with the suspension, try and utilise some of the old struts and springs i have from other cars..... and then just got to lower the seat rails cause my helmet was touchin the roof, and she'l be sweet... cant wait for round on, or the khana for some testing, how about a early khana for testing people?????

Re: Finally a twin cam excel.....
Hate to burst your bubble Glen, but did you use "fire retardant resin" for your engine cover? The heat from your exhaust Will ignite the fibreglass, once that goes up, Good bye car!
Does look good but!

Re: Finally a twin cam excel.....
its not near enough to the exhaust rosco to even get hot really, and if it got hot enogh to even start to make the fiberglass hot, theres other issues to worry about lol. i made sure it wouldnt be in a spot where it could catch fire, but i will look into makein it fire retardant. if it comes down to a scruitineering issue, i will just modify it so its just boxing in to pod and intake.....

Re: Finally a twin cam excel.....
Not so much worried from a scrutineering point of view as the fact that I don't want to see all your hard work go up in smoke. Whan fibreglass catches, it burns hot, is hard to extiguish & spreads like its in Victoria, Just be careful. By the way, I liked the beast better purple!!gmcintyre87 wrote:rosco, am i goin to have issues for scrutineering if i paint the intake with fire retardant paint? easy option for saftey i guess, although im not worried about it gettin hot. http://www.firepaint.com.au/index.html thats the shit im goin to get...for fiberglass also...
